I love a Venn Diagram, but this is my all time favorite!

It shows the overlap of traits in Giftedness, Autism , and ADHD.

Anyone who truly understands Giftedness and all it entails understands that these students are neurodivergent and need similar supports for their challenges that are offered to their ADHD and Autistic peers- but they don’t in NY and MA. And then there are 2e kids that are both Gifted AND have a recognized Daisability- usually get help for the deficit part, but not for the Gifted part- even though they directly impact each other educationally. Not being supported as a whole child, leaves them confused, angry, and sad, resulting in being and feeling very misunderstood by teachers and even worse, by themselves.

Many of these students can develop untrue negative self concepts based on this lack of support and even drop out of school, never realizing their true ability and potential.

This is a loss to our entire communities and to our Nation as a whole.

Did you know that there are several states that do recognize gifted and 2e students?

They even offer GIEPs- Gifted IEP’s.

These state by state inequitable education practices place many students at an unfair disadvantage, solely based on where their families call home. Those who are non white and low income are disproportionately barred from proper support and unidentified as Gifted or Twice Exceptional.

Gifted education is not inequitable / racist / ableist.

The process of identification / support is.

It is time for Universal Screening.
